AI Agent Versioning in BoldDesk

Updated:

AI agent versioning plays a crucial role in ensuring accuracy, reliability, and control when managing automated support workflows in BoldDesk. Versioning provides a structured lifecycle—Draft → Publish → Deploy—that functions as an effective versioning system for AI agents. This allows teams to refine, test, and roll out improvements safely and systematically.

Why Versioning Matters

Benefit Description
Quality Control Ensures accurate responses and prevents unintended behaviour from going live.
Rollback Capability Enables teams to revert to a previous published version by redeploying it if issues arise.
Safe Experimentation Draft mode and pre‑deployment testing allow teams to refine features without disrupting live services.

Understanding AI Agent Versioning in BoldDesk

BoldDesk manages AI agents using a lifecycle that helps teams maintain control over updates:

  • Draft Versions – editable, non‑public iterations of the agent
  • Previously Published Versions – these are versions that were previously published.
  • Currently Published Versions – finalised versions ready for use

Draft Versions

Draft mode serves as the workspace for refining an agent before exposing it to real users. In draft state, teams can:

  • Modify agent details (name, description, tone, content)
  • Update training data and guidance
  • Edit or add AI actions (API/MCP-based automations)
  • Simulate conversations using the Test Agent tool

All draft versions have the minor versioning format. For instance: v1.1, v2.2, v3.2.

Previously Published Versions

This list includes all previously published versions that have been replaced by the most recent versions. They follow the major versioning format, for example: v1.0, v2.0, v3.0. You cannot publish previously published versions but instead you can clone them to new published versions.

Currently Published Versions

These refer to the AI Agent versions that are currently active.
They have been deployed to support multiple channels or have been published and are prepared for deployment. They also follow the major versioning format, for example: v1.0, v2.0, v3.0.

How to Create a New AI Version

A new version can be created for either draft, previously published, or currently published versions. Follow the steps below to create a new version of an AI Agent.

  1. Navigate to AI Center > AI Agents
  2. Click on the AI Agent you want to modify.
  3. Access the various versions by selecting the versions icon.

FAQs

1. Does BoldDesk have a built‑in versioning system for AI agents?
Not explicitly by name, but the combination of Draft, Publish, and Deploy functions acts as a robust versioning system.

2. How do I update an existing AI agent without affecting the live version?
You can open the agent in the AI Center and create or edit a draft version. Changes remain unpublished until you finalise them. The Test Agent tool allows safe simulation before publishing.

3. Can I test an updated version before it goes live?
Yes. The Test Agent feature lets you simulate conversations and validate responses.

4. What happens when I publish an AI agent?
Publishing completes the current draft and produces a new stable version. It does not deploy the version automatically—you decide the timing and location of its deployment.

5. Can I roll back to a previous version?
While BoldDesk does not call it “rollback,” you can deploy an older published configuration by restoring a previous draft or maintaining multiple saved versions. This behaves like a rollback mechanism.

6. Can I modify AI actions in new versions?
Absolutely. BoldDesk lets you modify AI actions (API/MCP integrations) during the draft phase before publishing a new version.
