Installing and Configuring Dropbox App with BoldDesk

The Dropbox integration allows users to attach different-sized files directly from their Dropbox account to tickets and knowledge base articles.

What the Integration Does

The Dropbox integration provides the following capabilities:

  • File Access: View and browse all Dropbox files and folders.
  • File Search: Search Dropbox files directly within BoldDesk.
  • File Upload: Upload new files to Dropbox from BoldDesk.
  • Ticket Attachments (Agent Portal): Attach files while:
    • Creating tickets
    • Replying to tickets
    • Adding private notes
    • Adding public notes
  • Ticket Attachments (Customer Portal):
    Attach files during ticket creation or when adding replies.
  • Knowledge Base Support:
    Attach Dropbox files to knowledge base articles.

How to Install and Configure Dropbox Integration

There are three steps to follow to integrate Dropbox with BoldDesk, namely:

  1. Register a Dropbox app
  2. Install the Dropbox in BoldDesk
  3. Use Dropbox in BoldDesk

Step1: Register a Dropbox App

To use the Dropbox, you’ll need to register a new app in the App Console. To create an app, follow the instructions below.

  1. Sign in to the Dropbox App Console

  2. Click the Create App button.

  3. Select the Scoped access option under the Choose an API

  4. Select the Full Dropbox to choose the type of access.

  5. Enter the name of your app and then click Create App.

  6. Under Chooser/Saver domains, add your BoldDesk portal domain and click Add. Copy the App Key from the Settings tab.

Step2: Install and Configure the Dropbox App in BoldDesk

  1. Sign in to BoldDesk.

  2. Click Admin menu > Marketplace.

  3. Search and select the Dropbox.

  4. Click the Install.

  5. In the Account tab, enter the Application Key that you copied while creating the Dropbox app and click Next.

  6. In the Permission tab, select the appropriate roles for access and click Save to apply the changes. For more details, refer to Managing App Permissions and Visibility.

Q1: Is it necessary to have a Dropbox account?
Yes, the integration works with any Dropbox account as long as you can create an app in the Dropbox App Console.

Q2: Can I limit which agents can access Dropbox?
Yes. Use the Permission tab during installation to restrict access by role.

Q3: Does the integration support file uploads to Dropbox?
Yes. Users can upload new files to Dropbox directly from BoldDesk.

Q4: Are files stored in BoldDesk or Dropbox?
Files are stored in Dropbox, and BoldDesk links to them via the integration.
