How to Configure Customer Portal Login to Bypass the Sign‑In Page

Updated:

If your Customer Portal users already authenticate through Social Login or Single Sign‑On (SSO), you can configure BoldDesk so they enter the portal directly after authentication instead of first stopping at the portal sign‑in page. This is useful when you want a faster, lower‑friction login experience—especially for returning users—while still ensuring tickets remain accessible only after sign‑in. This setup is configured from Admin → Customer Portal → Login, where you enable your preferred login method (Social Login or SSO) and apply the change for the relevant brand.

Users cannot view tickets in the Customer Portal without signing in. However, users can sign in without landing on the sign‑in page when Social Login or SSO is used as the preferred login method.

Check out this video tutorial for more details:

Supported login methods

Form Login (username + password)

Users sign in using a username and password (Form Login).

Social Login

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Microsoft

Single Sign‑On (SSO)

  • OAuth 2.0
  • OpenID Connect
  • JWT

To bypass the sign‑in page and go directly into the portal after authentication, enable only one preferred login method (Social Login or SSO) and keep other options disabled. This approach is recommended to avoid showing the sign‑in selection screen.

Customer Portal configuration

To configure customer portal login to bypass the sign‑in page, do the following:

  1. Go to Admin → Customer Portal → Login tab.

  2. (If available) Select the correct Brand from the dropdown (because settings on this screen are brand‑specific).

  3. Enable exactly one login method from the following:

    • One Social Login provider (Google, Facebook, or Microsoft), or
    • One SSO method (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or JWT)
  4. Disable other login options you do not want to show on the sign‑in page (so the portal can route users directly after authentication).

  5. Click Update to save the changes.

Behavior and constraints (what to expect)

  • If Social Login or SSO is configured as the preferred method, users can be authenticated and routed into the portal without first landing on the sign‑in page.
  • If the portal requires authentication, users cannot view tickets until they sign in.
