Common Authentication and Marketplace App Troubleshooting Guide
BoldDesk Marketplace apps connect to external services through an authorization process. An installation or authentication error can occur when the authorization session expires, the connected account is invalid, the user lacks permission, an app is already installed, or BoldDesk cannot validate the authorization response.
This article explains how to resolve common authentication and installation messages displayed while connecting Marketplace apps in BoldDesk.
- To install an app, go to Admin > Apps > Marketplace.
- To review or re-authenticate an installed app, go to Admin > Apps > My Apps.
Prerequisites
Before troubleshooting, ensure that:
- Your BoldDesk role can access Marketplace and My Apps.
- You can sign in to the external service.
- Your external account can authorize or manage apps for the required organization, workspace, team, or tenant.
- You know the correct BoldDesk organization domain.
- Browser cookies, pop-ups, and redirects are allowed for BoldDesk and the external service.
Before You Begin
Complete these checks before applying an error-specific resolution:
- Close any incomplete installation or authorization windows.
- Refresh BoldDesk.
- Go to Admin > Apps > My Apps and check whether the app was installed.
- If the app is not installed, restart the installation from Admin > Apps > Marketplace.
- Confirm that the correct external account, organization, workspace, team, or tenant is selected.
- Complete the authorization in the same browser and session.
Do not share passwords, API keys, access tokens, authorization codes, client secrets, signing secrets, or session cookies with BoldDesk Support.
Authentication and Permission Errors
| Error message | How to resolve |
|---|---|
| Access Denied. | Confirm that your BoldDesk role can install or manage the app. Verify that your external account can authorize apps for the selected organization, workspace, team, or tenant. Restart the installation using an account with the required permissions. |
| Authentication failed | Restart the authorization from the app page in BoldDesk. Sign in to the intended external account, complete any verification prompt, review the requested permissions, and approve the connection. |
| The session has expired. Please login again. | Close the expired page, sign in to BoldDesk again, and restart the installation or re-authentication. Do not reuse the expired authorization URL. |
If an installed app provides a Re-Authentication option, use it to refresh an expired or interrupted connection.
For Slack, go to Admin > Apps > My Apps, open Slack, and click Re-Authentication.
Authorization Response Errors
| Error message | How to resolve |
|---|---|
| Access denied: Invalid authorization token | Restart the connection from BoldDesk. Sign in to the external service again and approve the requested permissions. If the app requires a manually entered API key or token, replace it with a valid credential from the external service. |
| Access denied: Invalid authorization code | Close the authorization window and start a new installation or re-authentication attempt from BoldDesk. Authorization codes are temporary and should not be reused. |
| Access denied: Invalid authorization state | Close all incomplete authorization tabs, sign in to BoldDesk again, and restart the connection in the same browser session. Do not open the authorization callback in another browser or device. |
Do not manually edit authorization tokens, codes, or state values. These values are generated during the BoldDesk-managed authorization flow.
Domain Errors
| Error message | How to resolve |
|---|---|
| Domain required | Enter the BoldDesk organization domain requested by the authorization page and submit the form again. |
| Invalid domain name | Confirm the organization URL in the browser and enter the correct BoldDesk domain. Do not enter an email address, Slack workspace URL, or unrelated website address. |
For Slack authorization, enter the BoldDesk domain after approving access in Slack, and then continue with the BoldDesk sign-in and permission steps.
If a valid BoldDesk domain is rejected repeatedly, contact BoldDesk Support.

Other App Errors
| Error message | How to resolve |
|---|---|
| App already exists | Open the existing app from Admin > Apps > My Apps and update or re-authenticate it. Do not create a duplicate installation. For a custom app, edit the existing app or use a unique app name. |
| App not found | Search for the app under My Apps. If it is not installed, check Marketplace and install it again. |
| Invalid app | Restart the installation from Marketplace and select the intended app. If the app is already installed, open it from My Apps instead of reusing an old installation URL. |
| Validation failed | Review the app configuration for a field-specific message. Complete the required account, mapping, action, and permission fields, and then save again. |
Account and Organization Errors
| Error message | How to resolve |
|---|---|
| Account error: Invalid organization | Confirm that the external organization exists and that the signed-in account can access it. Restart authorization and select the correct organization. |
| Invalid organization | Reopen the app authorization and select an accessible external organization. If the app is already installed, re-authenticate the connection. |
| Account error: Invalid user | Confirm that the external user account is active and can access the selected organization, workspace, tenant, or team. Restart authorization with the correct account. |
| Invalid app user | Sign out of the incorrect external account and restart authorization with an active user who can approve the app connection. |
| Invalid app team | Confirm that the external team still exists and that the authorizing user belongs to it. Restart authorization and select an accessible team. |
| Invalid app tenant | Confirm that the correct tenant is selected and that the signed-in account belongs to it. Restart authorization from BoldDesk. |
If the browser automatically opens the wrong external account, sign out of that account or retry the connection in a private browsing window.
