Email Loop: Causes, Detection, and Recovery

1 min read
Updated:

What is an email loop?

An email loop is an infinite loop that occurs when email clients, scripts, or mail servers generate automatic replies.

How does an email loop happen?

When an email is received from a domain and a reply notification is sent from BoldDesk, a subsequent reply may be generated from that domain. If this situation occurs repeatedly, it results in an email loop. We will identify the email loop using email headers and mark the email as suspended to prevent this situation.

The possible cases leading to email looping

  1. Emails from another helpdesk, out-of-office emails, and emails from automated applications.
  2. Emails sent between two support email addresses configured within BoldDesk. In this case, the system will automatically suspend the emails to avoid email looping.

Recovering suspended emails

The suspended emails can be managed using the Suspended Emails Views from the ticket list page. To recover a suspended email, refer to this article.
