How to Set IP Restrictions in BoldDesk Portals

Updated:

IP Restriction in BoldDesk is a built-in Security & Compliance feature that controls who can access your help desk portals by allowing only approved IP addresses or ranges.
This ensures that Agents, Customers, and Admin users can only access the system from trusted networks—protecting Tickets, Settings, and sensitive data.

Check out this video tutorial for more details.

Where to Configure IP Restriction

All configuration is handled inside the BoldDesk Admin interface:
Admin → Security & Compliance → IP Restriction

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I turn off IP restriction without deleting configured IPs?
Yes. Disabling the Enable IP-Based Access Restriction toggle keeps all configured IP entries saved for future use.

  2. Can I create different IP restriction rules for different departments or groups?
No. BoldDesk does not support IP restriction at the group or department level. It is applied globally at the portal level.

  3. Does BoldDesk allow scheduling IP restriction rules?
No. There is no scheduling option for IP restriction. Rules must be manually enabled or disabled.

  4. Can I duplicate or clone an existing IP range entry?
No. BoldDesk does not provide a duplication feature. You must manually create new entries using Add IP Range.

  5. Is there a way to test IP restriction before applying it?
No built-in testing mode is available. It is recommended to keep your current IP included during setup to avoid lockout.

  6. Can IP restrictions be applied to specific features like Automation or Reports?
No. IP restriction only controls portal access (Agent and Customer portals) and does not apply to individual features.
