How to Configure Gmail IMAP in BoldDesk for Email Syncing

Updated:

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) allows you to access emails on multiple devices while keeping them in sync. This is particularly useful when you want to manage your Gmail emails through BoldDesk.
By default, Google enables IMAP for all Gmail accounts, so you can proceed directly with the IMAP configuration in BoldDesk.

Google now enables IMAP by default for all Gmail accounts. You no longer need to manually activate it through Gmail settings.

Configure Gmail in BoldDesk Using IMAP

After confirming that IMAP is active by default, you need to add your Gmail ID and an App password or your email inbox password in BoldDesk’s IMAP option.

  1. If your Gmail account has multifactor authentication enabled, you cannot use your regular password for IMAP configuration in BoldDesk. Instead, you must generate an App Password in your Google Account. To do this, go to Google Account, navigate to Security, and select App Passwords to create one.
  2. When Gmail emails are synced to BoldDesk using IMAP, those emails will be marked as read in your Gmail inbox.
  3. BoldDesk uses an IMAP synchronizer (a CRON job) that runs every few minutes. Because of this, you may notice a slight delay between when an email arrives in Gmail and when it appears in BoldDesk.
  4. If you select the option Retrieve emails from the previous day while configuring Gmail IMAP in BoldDesk, syncing older emails may take additional time. New emails will only sync after all older emails have been processed.
