How to Enable Dark Mode in the BoldDesk Customer Portal

BoldDesk allows administrators to customize the Customer Portal theme using built‑in configuration options within the Admin Settings area. Dark Mode can be enabled per brand, improving usability and visual comfort for end users accessing the Help Center and submitting tickets.
This guide explains how to apply the Dark theme using BoldDesk’s native UI and workflows.

Overview: Customer Portal Theme Customization

Dark Mode is part of BoldDesk’s Customer Portal Customization settings. It applies only to the Customer Portal interface and affects:

  • Help Center pages
  • Knowledge Base article views
  • Ticket submission and ticket status pages

Theme settings are managed per brand and do not affect the Agent Portal or Admin interface.

Step‑by‑Step: Enable Dark Mode in the Customer Portal

Step 1: Open Customer Portal Customization

  1. Log in to BoldDesk as an Administrator.

  2. Go to Admin from the main navigation.

  3. Select Customer Portal.

  4. Open the Customization tab.

This section controls branding, layout, and theme options for the Customer Portal.

Step 2: Select the Target Brand

  1. In the Customization view, choose the Brand you want to modify.

  2. Confirm that the selected brand matches the Customer Portal instance you want to update.

Theme settings apply only to the selected brand and do not propagate automatically to other brands.

Step 3: Apply the Dark Theme

  1. Locate the Theme Customization section.

  2. Select Dark from the available theme options.

  3. Click Update or Save to apply the changes.

The Dark theme is applied immediately to the selected brand’s Customer Portal.

FAQs

  1. Can customers switch between Light and Dark Mode themselves?
    No. BoldDesk does not provide an end‑user theme toggle. Theme selection is controlled by administrators at the brand level.

  2. Does Dark Mode apply to the Agent Portal or Admin pages?
    No. Dark Mode applies only to the Customer Portal. Agent and Admin interfaces are not affected.

  3. Can I use different themes for different brands?
    Yes. Theme Customization is brand‑specific. Each brand can have its own theme setting.

  4. Is custom theme colour configuration available in Dark Mode?
    No. BoldDesk does not support custom colour palettes for Dark Mode. Only predefined Light and Dark themes are available.

  5. Will enabling Dark Mode affect Knowledge Base content formatting?
    No. Article content, formatting, and structure remain unchanged. Only the portal theme colours are adjusted.
