Troubleshooting IMAP Connection Issue with Gmail
Issue Description
When attempting to connect to your Gmail inbox, you may encounter the following error:
“An error occurred when connecting to your inbox. Verify your IMAP settings and try again.”
This error typically occurs when the incorrect password is used or if IMAP access is not properly configured.
Solution
Step 1: Use an App Password Instead of Your Regular Account Password
If you are using Gmail in BoldDesk, you will need to generate an App Password instead of your regular account password. This is required regardless of whether multifactor authentication is enabled. It is due to Google’s enhanced security settings, which may block access if BoldDesk uses your main account password.
To generate an App Password, go to your Google Account, navigate to the Security tab, and select the option to generate an App Password. Once generated, use this App Password when configuring the IMAP settings in BoldDesk.
Step 2: Enable IMAP Access and Configure IMAP Settings in BoldDesk
Once you have generated the App Password, ensure that IMAP access is enabled for your Gmail account. Then, configure the IMAP settings in BoldDesk using the generated App Password.
