How to Limit Access to BoldDesk's Agent and Customer Portals Using IP Restrictions

What is the purpose and functionality of IP-based access restriction?

IP-based access restriction is a security feature that BoldDesk administrators can use to enhance the security of their portal. By specifying authorized IP addresses or ranges, administrators can ensure that only approved users or devices can access the portal, thereby safeguarding sensitive information from unauthorized access.

Configuring IP-based access restrictions

To configure access control for the BoldDesk portal by adding specific IP addresses or ranges, follow the given steps:

  1. Go to Admin Module > General settings > IP Restriction.

  1. Determine whether to enable or disable the IP address access restrictions for your BoldDesk portal based on your organization’s security requirements.
  2. If you enabled IP-based access restrictions, you have the option to specify whether the IP-based access restriction applies to the agent portal only or both agent and customer portals.

Adding an IP Address

To add an IP address or range,

  1. Click the Add IP Range button on the right side of the IP Restriction page.

  1. In the pop-up, select whether to add a static IP address or an IP range based on your preference.
  2. Enter the IP address according to the selected type (static or range) and click the Add button.

The system will automatically append the current user’s IP address if it’s not already listed.

  1. After adding the necessary IP address, click the Update button to save the changes.

Editing IP address

To edit the IP address, follow the given steps:

  1. Select the IP address you want to edit.
  2. Click the Edit icon. A pop-up window will be displayed, allowing you to edit the IP address.

  1. Make your changes and click the Update button.

Deleting IP Address

To delete an IP address, follow the given steps:

  1. Select the IP address you want to delete.
  2. Click the Delete icon. A confirmation dialog will be displayed.

  1. Select the Yes, Delete button to confirm the IP address removal.

  1. Click the Update button to save the changes.
